A very simple piece of maths with this maths worksheet but it can be quite powerful. Take the numbers from 1 to 9 and see how many different ways that ten can be made by adding them.
Some children will adopt a random approach, others will be more organised and work systematically: 1 + 9, 2= 8 etc.
Good oral work here: is 1 + 9 the same as 9 + 1 ? etc.
Keep to two numbers to begin with but of course this can be extended to using three numbers.
It is a really good idea to have a set of card numbers cut out for this type of work. A set can be found in the reception maths worksheet section.
