Scrap school tests

Scrap tests!

The General Teaching Council has suggested that the dreaded SATs at 7 and 11 should be ditched. They say that the tests fail to improve standards and just add stress to pupils.

Reaction to this has been mixed:

Alan Johnson, our beloved Education Secretary says that it would be “profoundly wrong” to scrap the tests.

Davis Willetts (Tory) says they are “crucial for improving standards”.

Sarah Teather (Lib Dem) agrees with the GTC saying the tests “pervert the true purpose of education”.

Hmm! Tories and Labour agreeing???
