There are quite a number of different ways that an addition question can be asked. By Year 2 children are expected to be able to recognise these:
Add 20 to 30
20 add 30
What is the sum of 20 and 30 ?
What is the total of 20 and 30 ?
How many are 20 and 30 altogether?
At this age expect to read the question with your child as many will find this very difficult. The key point is to recognise that these are all addition questions.
