The first of these free maths worksheets looks at the abacus to help with reading 4-digit numbers. Notice that the question asks for the numbers to be written in figures and in words. Figures should be easy – words might be harder.
The second worksheet shows a way that the calculator can be useful to help with maths, rather than just a quick means to find an answer. With these questions the child must know the answer before using the calculator!
eg change 5346 to 6346 using only one operation on the calculator.
Interesting point for those who love patterns in numbers. Look at the answers to the last four questions where numbers have been reversed and subtracted – can you see a pattern. (Try adding the digits and I will say no more.)
